Barefoot and totally safe! Review by José (Portugal)

I live in south Portugal, surrounded by woods, near two great iberian rivers ( Tagus and Guadiana ), not far from the Atlantic Ocean. I´m in barefoot since two years. I usually run barefoot ( depends on the weather ) or with "minimal shoes".

I received the Paleos in rainy and cold day of spring ( not usual here ! ). I had try them in my garden for ten minutes. My first impression ( and I keep it! ) was the safety. Paleos are like a aid when you feel unsafe or unsecure to continue barefoot due to the conditions of the surface.

A walk with my dog ( about an hour ). We had climb the hills, walk, run and play in the chopped wood, we had train the balance in the fallen trunks of old trees, crossed some brooks. It was amazing to walk in surfaces covered with leaves, were you can´t see what below, with a total feeling of safety, with no fear to get hurt.

My first conclusion is someting like that: walk with Paleos is walk barefoot and totally safe.
( I noticed that day, that in some areas my dog tend to go through right or left, but I can go in front without worry about.)

I am very impressed with these "shoes"! Review by Marco from the UK

Last Sunday the 14th of April 2013 it was finally above +10 degrees Celsius so time to take the Anterra's out for a follow up test. Running in the Anterra's.

I walked to my local field in trainers and changed on the footpath into the Anterra's, with liner socks. It had rained a few of the days before so the ground was still quite wet and in places very muddy. One of the first things then after putting them on is that you do not have to worry about soiling your precious running shoes. You can just walk / run through the puddles and mud and not worry about the dirt. Also because you do not actively have to look where you are walking / running, your eyes are not towards the ground 50% of the time thus i noticed i can stand up straighter focussing on the way ahead. This better posture again improves running.

From grass to path to mud to climbing hills and through the woods, what can i say. The slogan should be: 'the "shoes" that make you smile!'. It really is like running barefoot but with that added protection.

When running they do gather dirt & mud but they still feel light and your feet still feel all the sensations of nature. I did not get cold feet as i kept moving and landing on the ball of the feet in them is no problem with the steel rings either. They offer great protection so i do not have to worry where i thread and offer better grip in the mud than barefoot. Although when they collect a lot of mud they do start to slip more on slippery slopes. The liner socks helped a bit with padding the fastening around the achilles heel but apart from that i did not really notice them and next time i will try without as i am as yet unconvinced of their use.

Still very impressed with these "shoes" and now that the weather is improving i will take them out more and more.

In fact on the way back i opted to keep them on instead of changing into my trainers and walked through the grass and over tarmac past the shops to home. That got some interesting stares of people i must say. Especially on this hard surface the feet feel like they get massaged and they tingled nicely when i got home.

The day after i really felt i had given my feet a workout as for the first time in months they feel like they have been used as they should have. Tired but good!

I have taken quite a few short videos of running on different soil types and will now edit these together and post within the next two weeks!

"happy feet" Marco

Not a single scratch! Review by Ash

they take some time to get used to. Both the feel and the wearing of the Paleo's takes a little getting used to, mostly due to the texture of the maile on the ground, but also the absolute absence of padding.

Fortunately, I have experience in bare feet, moccasins and camp-slippers, so adjusting was a quick process. The shoes themselves are very comfortable, mine fit well, not too open, not too tight. One thing I found was that they really did protect my feet from incidental stabbings. They also became pretty much forgotten once on, as long as I kept an awareness of the terrain changes in urban environments, (which is to say the polished floors of shopping malls, tiled floors and big stonework flooring in train stations) the world was my oyster.

I walked over broken glass, hot asphalt, mounds of shells and piles of branches. Not a single scratch. I was so very impressed! I wear mine a lot, any time I get the chance. I get a lot of attention out on the street, at festivals, around the house and out shopping. I think they have significant wilderness applications, and survival options. These appear to be indestructible. Indestructible is a real asset in the event of a disaster, as is reliability. The Paleo shoes are comfortable, rugged, and fit any natural surface

Paleos hug the terrain very closely! Review by Aurovici

Most of us who are used to our feet being confined to shoes with a semi rigid sole will find the freedom of movements that one can get from the MM thick flexible chain link fabric non habitual indeed. The Paleos allow your feet to move in ways that a regular shoe would not. In fact it is almost as good as being barefoot as the Paleos hug the terrain very closely. So it is in this aspect as well as the rich sensory feedback that they provide to the brain.

Fantastic for hiking and running in the woods! Review by Mikkel

The Anterra are just great Minimalist shoes for off-road hiking! Even now as it's still cold in Denmark I love them a lot. I really like the ambition you guys have with these - to make it as close as possible to running barefoot without getting hurt.

The reason I started to run barefoot on roads and not in the woods last summer, was that it is easier to see where you step and avoid stepping on something that might hurt. We have a nice road by the summer house with little traffic which is good to run on. There is a shorter (5km )track close to home, but the last time I ran there barefooted they had put out a lot of sand because it was ice a couple of weeks ago, and I also saw some glass. Broken glass is the main reason you want to wear som eprotection. No probmlem with Paloes now.

Thanks, Mikkel (Posted on 3/16/13)

Great product and fits like a glove! Even at home wearing them on the carpet it's a real pleasure. I look ver much forward that it is getting warmer again. The few steps outside have already given me a good idea of how intense you can feel the the ground. Quality, workmanship and barefoot feeling, much more than I expected. I can recommend the Paleos to anyone who want to have a very special minimalist. Thanks! Alessia. (Posted on 1/25/13)

As a fan of running on the trails, i really wondered how these shoes would measure up or if they only looked good.
After walking and running in them for weeks now i must say they are just the coolest! Not just the looks but they are so practical. They grip really well and the contact with each / nature makes you smile. So not only do they offer good protection, they feel really light and are very practical. And after a muddy run, Just wash & dry them and they are as good as new!

I never thought that it would feel so good. With the FiveFingers, I never got along really. But I am not a runner type and rather go for a walk. Although I always walk the same route every time the feeling is somehow different. I actually know just now what my feet have missed all the time.

I can thoroughly recommend Anterra to anyone who wants to do something good for his feet! They also look cool ;)

Love them! Marc (Posted on 11/19/12)
A very different minimalist and a great invention! Review by Ian

My names Ian, I'm 29 years old, from West Yorkshire, in England. I've been interested in 'natural/barefoot' running for a few years now after returning to running following some chronic calf issues. I compete in "fellrunning" mostly and try do 90% of my training off-roads. I also enjoy mountaineering and most things outdoors! I work as a lecturer in sport science at a college, specialising in physiology, nutrition and psychology.

The ANTERRA’s: The first thing which took me instantly was the complexity of the shoe and the different pattern and spread of links, its certainly an impressive piece of engineering but you dont notice it until close up, very clever design!

In my first outdoor test, I wore the ANTERRA’s to walk around the local sports fields as part of my cool down after a speed work session (in a different pair of shoes). The terrain is soft grass and it was quite wet so reasonably muddy too, great fun!! Although it was a chilly day the shoes were warm enough, I certainly didnt feel I had cold feet, even if they were cooler than usual! The mud comes straight through to the soles of your feet so you do have physical contact with the earth, something which obviously enhances the barefoot experience and puts a smile on your face.

As I was only walking and I do wear minimalist shoes anyway I had no problems with calves, achilles or otherwise afterwards and the terrain I was testing on was soft and so there were no stones or other rubble underneath the feet so I cant yet say how the shows will cope with harder terrain.

I think the hardest thing is going to be slowly increasing how much I use the Paleos as right now I just want to get out and run in them to see what they/I can do!

My first impression: very different minimalist shoes and a great invention! Ian (Posted on 10/24/12)
Great shoes for outdoors! Review by Francesco

I'm really big fan of Vibram FF and also ANTERRA sure nothing will change that. But that only applies to roads and trails. The the real open country have Paloes immense benefits, where the FF get useless, or at least quite unpleasant. With friends I regularily go to the country side for stunt kite flying. That is one of my hobbies. Mud and dirt are nothing the FF and they get very slippery.

Of course that's not very handy for my hobby. ANTERRA just there has the best grip. They almost bury themselves on meadows, mud and dirt when the kite drags me behind. Just great. And if they are dirty - so what? Water, drying, done.

For those who want to do such a thing too on the flat land or else where I can warmly recomment these shoes (socks?). Try them next year when it gets warm again! A really a great invention!

I hope my English was ok ;) Ciao from (Salerno Italy)! (Posted on 10/15/12)
